Changes Afoot July 3, 2006

Filed under: Business as Usual — Eric The Tired @ 6:08 am

Hungerstuff.com will be undergoing some changes; moving servers, changing blog platforms, etc. While this is mostly behind the scenes there are a few major changes to expect.

Most Important: Instead of www.hungerstuff.com just redirecting you to hungeryam.blogspot.com it has it’s very own hosting. This means that if you have saved it as a favorite place you need to add it again, and if you currently subscribe to us with a feed-reader of some sort you’ll need to update that as well.

These changes are being implemented to better serve you, but during this transitional time the site may face some service blackouts, and general odd behavior. We thank-you for your patience and continued involvement with Hunger.

Peace,
Eric

Real Map to the Catacombs June 27, 2006

There’s an old joke that goes something like this…

Why did the Israelites wander the desert for 40 years?
Because Moses wouldn’t stop and ask directions!

I’ve added a link to the sidebar which takes you to a “real”, but technically incorrect map of the Catacombs. You may be asking yourself, “Has Eric finally lost it? What makes this map both right and wrong?”
The Catacombs are part of the parish offices located at 530 Glen Ave, but when you look up that address on a map you’re pointed to the backside of the church not the offices. In order to get a map that sends you straight to the Catacombs’ front door you need to enter 558 Glen Ave. It’s odd but it’s useful when you’re helping friends find their way to a Hunger event.

The new link on the sidebar uses Google Maps, but here are a few other mapping services in case you’re more familiar with them.

Yahoo Maps
Mapquest
(With Yahoo & Mapquest 548 Glen Ave is needed)

Lumen (The Hispanic Young Adult Group) and Hunger are having a picnic! It’s taking place on Sunday, July 9th, at 2:00pm next to the Catacombs. There’s going to be soccer, volleyball, bean bag toss, young adults your age, hot dogs, and more.

To keep things organized (make sure teams are even, etc) we’d like to know if you want to play soccer or volleyball ahead of time. We’d also love your help with any of the events, which includes the food.

Please email us at contact@hungerstuff.com, be sure to provide your name and which sport you’d like to participate in or event you’d like to help with. You can also call us. Contact numbers for Hunger or Lumen can be found in the church bulletin.

We can’t wait to see you there!!

We’re Still Here June 22, 2006

Hey everybody,

I know there has been an intense lack of updates lately, but don’t worry that’s about to change. With some basic improvements to the technological and administrative side of things, updates should come around quicker and more often.

Hapy New Month!!! May 1, 2006

Filed under: Business as Usual — Eric The Tired @ 11:24 am
We’ve got some exciting events planned for the month of May. Make sure you check out our calendar of events.

Next up is the start of our May - June Game Tournament with Texas Hold’em. It’s on Sunday, May 7, in the Catacombs after the LIFETEEN Mass.

We’ve raised the Bridge until October

Filed under: Business as Usual — Eric The Tired @ 11:12 am
Well this season of Bridge covering the Sacraments has come to an end. I was very pleased to hear so many positive comments.

When Bridge returns in the fall we’ll be tackling the creed, that will be quite interesting I’m sure.

This Sunday April 23rd, at 8pm: Texas Hold’em April 19, 2006

Filed under: Business as Usual — Eric The Tired @ 5:18 pm
Are you ready for it?
This is the end of the March-April Series. A winner will be declared at the end of the night and all of the points will reset. New players are still welcome, even this late in the series. This is Texas Hold’em folks, a real roller coaster ride. A player can reach the top and two hands later be left sitting there with nothing just wondering what happened.

If you don’t care about cards, you should still stop by for the fellowship. Some of the most interesting hands have been played by who where so engrossed by the conversation that they didn’t even know what was going on.

Your first set of chips are always on the house, and if you bankrupt, no worries. Just bring a canned good to be donated to We Care and your back in the game with a fresh set of chips.

Come to the 6:30pm LIFETEEN Mass and join in The Catacombs directly following mass.

What is Hunger? April 15, 2006

Filed under: Business as Usual — Eric The Tired @ 10:05 am
Hunger is the Young Adult Ministry at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. We welcome anyone between the ages of 18 and 29.
Hunger hosts weekly events of all kinds. Everything from bimonthly Texas Holdem Tournaments, to our evenings of prayer and Bible trivia. Recently we watched The Passion of the Christ. At the end of the month we’ll be participating in another session of the multi-generational parish wide “Bridge”.

Events are usually held at The Catacombs directly following the Sunday LIFE TEEN Mass @ 6:30pm.

(”The Catacombs” is part of the parish offices’ lower level)

No Hunger Event on the 16th

Filed under: Business as Usual — Eric The Tired @ 9:53 am

There’s no Hunger event this Sunday, but don’t worry we’ll be back next week with another installment of our bimonthly Texas Hold’em Tournaments. That starts directly following the LIFE TEEN mass at 6:30pm
